Pope Francis appoints Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere as the new Kampala Archbishop

On 9th December 2021, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Paul Ssemogerere of Kasana luweero diocese as the new Archbishop of Kampala replacing the Late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
Bishop Ssemogerere was born on June 30, 1956, from Kisubi Parish now Wakiso District.
He was appointed Bishop of Kasana-Luweero on June 4, 2008, by his predecessor by then-Bishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
He was consecrated a Bishop on August 23, 2008, by Bishop Lwanga.
He has ordained a priest on June 3, 1983.
On April 8, 2021, after the death of Archbishop Lwanga, Bishop Ssemogerere was named the new apostolic Administrator of the Kampala Archdiocese
The Papal Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Luigi Bianco announced the appointment of Ssemogerere, who was until recently been the Bishop of Kasana Luwero on Thursday morning. The office of the Kampala Archbishop fell vacant on April 3, 2020, after the death of Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
