
Kajjansi Police Station has in custody a yet to be identified Whiteman and a Boda boda rider over allegedly planting a fake bomb at ABSA Bank and Guild Forex Bureau both at Quality Supermarket Lubowa, along Entebbe road and demanded more than UGX 600 million for ransom after.
According to a source privy to the arrests, the Mzungu on Tuesday evening handed envelopes to Madi Muteta a Boda Boda rider to deliver to the two financial institutions.
Its reported that when the ABSA and Forex Bureau staff opened the envelopes, they found letters informing them that a pipe bomb had been erected at their entrances and the write demanding for different amounts in ransom in order not to set the bombs off.
“On August 19, 2025, at around 4 pm, police received information about two anonymous letters delivered to Absa Bank and Guild Forex Bureau. Police cordoned off the scene, and the bomb squad responded. The letters claimed a pipe bomb was planted at the entrance and demanded a ransom of $120,000 (UGX 427 million), 20,000 Euros, (UGX 83 million) 20,000 Pound Sterling (UGX 96 million), and 30 million Ugandan shillings,” a report by Kajjansi police notes.
The Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrests noting that investigations were ongoing. He however noted that the mzungu was yet to provide his details.
The unidentified whiteman was tracked down with the help of the CCTV cameras mounted along Entebbe road which enabled Kajjansi Police detectives identify the vehicle he used give Muteta the envelopes to the banking institutions about the bombs which were confirmed to be fakes by Kajjansi Police after inspection by the bomb squad.
According to Muteta’s statement, he was paid 20,000 Ugandan shillings to deliver the letters to security guards. Muteta said he was just lucky to be paid 20000 shillings for such a very short distance but did not know it was going to land him in trouble.
