US Says China will face consequences if it helps Russia evade sanctions in its invasion of Ukraine amid Ukraine War Crisis
Unnamed US officials told multiple news outlets that China will face consequences if it helps Russia evade sanctions in its invasion of Ukraine.
This comes as late last month, China abstained from a UN Security Council proposal that aimed to condemn the Russian assault on Ukraine.
Jake Sullivan a US National Security Adviser made Washington’s concerns “clear” to the director of China’s Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission Yang Jiechi during a meeting in Rome earlier in the day, State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters on Monday.
The Chinese foreign ministry accused the US of spreading disinformation as Russia denies asking Beijing for military help.
Media outlets, citing Washington officials, say that Russia has in recent days asked China specifically for military equipment, including drones.
Ned Price the State Department spokesperson said “We are watching very closely the extent to which the PRC [the People’s Republic of China] or any country in the world provides support – material, economic, financial, rhetorical, otherwise – to this war of choice that President [Vladimir] Putin is waging” against Ukraine.
